Communal Poetry Art

Time: an hour

Location: intended for a classroom

Material: Paper, pen/pencil, scissors, tape/stapler, art supplies

Procedure:

Provide some time for each person to write a poem about a predetermined topic                   (examples include media’s portrayal of sex, self-image, gentrification, the future)

Reflect on the poem through some form of art that can later be displayed

        (examples include drawing, painting, sculpting, photography)

Have each person find a line or two from their poem that is particularly powerful and          cut it out

Use each person’s line of poetry to combine into a new collective poem

Display the new poem and the reflection art piece together
